The Loon Chair

For my EcoFab Furniture Design course we were tasked with using found or salvaged materials.

When approaching this project I wanted to use a minimal amount of materials, have thoughtful joinery, and ultimately have a chair that is able to be disassembled and moved.

The Loon chair is a flat pack, slotting system chair, that did not use any glue or metal connections. This chair is used entirely of free, scrap, plywood which Studio Mobler donated to me for this project.

After the furniture design course ended, I had my first commission for the Loon Chair by one of my other architecture teachers at CU Denver. For this commission I did not use reclaimed wood, but rather African Mahogany plywood. This gave the wood a rich color and striation pattern (photos to come). The client has deemed the Loon Chair his designated reading chair.
